Daniel Hernandez Condemns “Appaling” Total Abortion Ban in Arizona

Tucson, AZ – Today, in response to the reinstatement of the 120-year-old territorial-era ban on all abortions in Arizona, Daniel Hernandez, Democratic congressional candidate for Arizona’s sixth district, made the following comment:

The Attorney General’s announcement that an archaic pre-statehood law banning all abortions will be enforced is appalling and categorically wrong,” said Hernandez. “Extreme Republicans like Juan Ciscomani and Mark Brnovich support criminalizing all abortions, even in cases of rape or incest. Prosecuting and jailing doctors and those who seek abortion care is horrific. The failure of our leaders in Washington to protect abortion rights nationally is unacceptable, and in Congress I will fight to ensure abortion is available to Arizonans and all Americans.

Yesterday, Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced a pre-statehood law from over 100 years ago is now in effect in Arizona banning all abortions. His office plans to ask the court to vacate the injunction which was put in place following Roe v. Wade in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
